Modern Methods of Construction
Jessup have embraced Modern Methods of Construction since it was re-invented using modern materials and innovative manufacturing processes. There are many types of modern construction methods from off-site manufactured components to panelised solutions to completely pre-fabricated homes. Each can provide benefits in terms of cost, speed of construction, reduced waste, enhanced energy efficiency and improved staff health and safety. As technology improves, new innovations (e.g. 3D printed homes) are appearing which may transform the way homes are built in the future.
There are some common aspects to both modern and traditional methods of construction: Both need to go through the planning process, both need ground remediation to ensure the sites are fit for construction (no contamination, low flood risk, no subsidence, etc), both need to meet or exceed current Building Regulations, and support standard warranties, insurance and mortgages.
We regularly use off-site manufactured components and sub-assemblies (factory made floor and roof cassettes, door sets, roof spandrel panels, GRP canopies and chimneys, pre-cast piling, pre-cast foundations, etc).
On many schemes we have used off-site manufactured timber frame or steel frame structures. These provide units which are delivered to site and weather-tight within just a few days. They can be finished with brick facing and tiled roofs to blend into surrounding properties, and deliver excellent efficiency, low-carbon impact and high levels of quality. Our timber frame solutions are provided by LoCalHomes (http://www.localhomes.co.uk/) a not-for-profit social enterprise who support the local community and look after the environment.
There remains a strong demand for traditionally built homes, which can match or exceed the benefits of modern method constructed homes, and provide sought after designs and durability that have been around for hundred of years. Jessup has a strong reputation for being a leader in the Midlands of traditionally built homes and also has the skills and experience to deliver the growing trend in Modern Methods of Construction.
Our development at Darkhouse Lane Coseley consists of 142 timber frame homes, provided by LoCal Homes for Accord Housing Group
